Type the stitch count of your pattern and the fabric count. You get the finished design size and the size to cut, with a margin for framing or finishing, in inches and centimetres.
How the calculation works
Fabric count is the number of squares (and therefore stitches) per inch. Divide the stitch count by the fabric count to get the size in inches:
Finished width = pattern width in stitches ÷ stitches per inch.
100 stitches ÷ 14 count = 7.14 inches (18.1 cm).
On evenweave or linen you normally stitch over two threads, so a 28-count linen gives 14 stitches per inch and the same finished size as 14-count Aida. The calculator handles that when you pick "Over 2".
The cut size adds a margin on every side. Three inches is the usual allowance for a piece that will be framed or stretched; use 1.5 to 2 inches for ornaments and cards, and more for large pieces that will spend months in a frame or hoop and fray at the edges.

Frequently asked questions
How much fabric do I need for a cross stitch pattern?
Finished design size plus about 3 inches on every side. A 100 × 120 stitch design on 14 count is 7.1 × 8.6 inches finished, so cut roughly 13 × 15 inches.
Does the calculator work for evenweave and linen?
Yes. Choose "Over 2" and enter the thread count of the fabric (for example 28 or 32). The tool halves it to get stitches per inch.
What if my pattern is in centimetres?
Patterns are counted in stitches, not centimetres, so enter the stitch dimensions from the chart. The results are shown in both units.
How do I make a pattern smaller without redesigning it?
Use a higher count. The same 100-stitch chart is 7.1 inches on 14 count and 5.6 inches on 18 count. The stitches get smaller and the design keeps every detail. The Aida count guide covers what changes for your eyes and thread.
